Nikon D40
After a full month of serious pondering, I bought a Nikon D40 today. It was a toss up between this one and the Canon Rebel Xti, a common debate it seems. In the end, they seemed relatively similar and the Nikon was $200 more affordable. A significant difference when budgeting for a 4 month long trip. I purchased the basic kit with the 18mm-55 mm lens.
First Nikon photo. Not anything special, but what can you expect when it’s 1:30am?

The Nikon, cost difference aside, definitely the better choice.
