Karlovy Vary

After two days in this spa town, I am looking forward to leaving in the morning.  Yes, it is beautiful, clean, well maintained… but it is also expensive, posh, and in the end boring.  I took the opportunity to spend the day relaxing, and went for a massage.  Happily, the massage included two sauna sessions, and two hot stand up showers (a luxury I have not had in a week now).  Sadly, I have now spent a portion of my evening sitting awkwardly on an uncomfortable couch and likely have ruined any benefits from today’s massage.

There are 13 main springs, and six of them are together underneath the cover of a large building, the Mill Colonnade.  People promenade with orange paper cups or specially made ceramic drinking cups and go to each of these mineral water springs tasting.  I decided to follow their lead, but with my aluminum water bottle instead.  It was not nearly as sophisticated looking, and as most of the springs are quite hot (~50°C), it made the bottle awkward to hold and drink from.
