Rain in Paris
The rain is making it a bit difficult to gather the energy required for seeing this large and vibrant city. It’s actually the rain combined with the wind, as my cheap umbrella is not withstanding the latter very well, and therefore failing at protecting against the former.
I spent most of the day inside the Pompidou museum, taking in and photographing the modern art. Why doesn’t Calgary have a modern art museum? Amazing.
I also walked past this really cute kid, playing in the sand even though it was lightly raining.
calgary does have a modern art gallery… The Art Gallery of Calgary.

The Art Gallery of Calgary is a definite pass for a contemporary arts gallery, but Calgary has a long way to go in that sphere. Here in Montréal, we’ve the Musée d’art contemporain, the Musée des beaux-arts (which has a contemporary arts section), Yves Laroche, and possibly many other lovely galleries I’ve yet to stumble upon.
From what I’ve seen, it’s the lack of arts funding in Alberta compared to elsewhere in Canada. And every sector of the arts has been hurt straight across the board by Harper’s $45 million cuts to the arts and culture.
