80! One of my grandmothers just turned 80 this past week. We held a pretty sweet party for her at the Austrian Canadian Club, and had 36 of her friends and family participate in the occasion. Us grandchildren had the fun task of decorating the room, including blowing up 100 helium balloons. I have to say – a party isn’t a party without balloons…
I took home 31 of them and filled my bedroom, only to wake up the next morning tangled up in the fallen balloons and ribbon. The brief joy was worth it.

Happy Birthday Babi P!

Once again I’ve become hooked on a teen fiction series, and this one I can recommend whole-heartedly. The Hunger Games trilogy is a captivating tale, and after reading the first two books in 4 days I am eagerly anticipating the release of the third book, Mockingjay, on the 24th.

Conveniently, I work at a bookstore that’s hosting a book release party on the evening of the 23rd. Games, food, and me dressed up in a ridiculous costume - all things to look forward to. If you’re equally as hooked on this trilogy as I am, you’re more than welcome to come party it up with us.

Can’t wait!!!

I was delightfully surprised last weekend when I went to my first baseball game with my parents. After a longer-than-necessary phone conversation during which my dad answered all of my silly questions and explained to me all the intricacies of the event (what should I wear? how long will it take? can I bring my book?) I finally agreed to an afternoon at the ballpark. As it turns out – watching baseball on a sunny Sunday afternoon is a lot of fun! I awkwardly ate a Spolumbos hotdog, I drank Bud Light Lime (or “Bud Light with chemicals” as the beer man liked to say), and I slathered on the sunscreen (except for my legs – those I was displaying as much as possible in my summer’s-about-to-end effort to give them a little more colour). I might even be convinced to go again.

On Saturday I found myself enjoying the lovely afternoon, wearing a newly acquired button from Nation Toys & Tees, and wondering whether I would prefer to use the light green paint or the dark green paint…

After reading a post about Painting Chinatown, I couldn’t resist stopping downtown to check on the Chinatown festivities, and join in on the painting. After walking down the main mural alleyway, Dana and I emerged at the end to discover a completely empty white wall! We were delighted, and a little nervous about making the first brush stroke. Once the nervousness subsided, Dana and I took to it to paint what I paint best… Stars! (Though, to be honest, I think Dana’s orange stars look much more elegant than my green chubby ones…)

This is how we left it on Saturday afternoon. Even while trying to take this photo we had to stop other people from running in to fill in all the white spaces. I can’t wait to see how it will develop into a permanent mural!
