Traveling in Style

Every time I travel with someone new, I learn a new trick.

Last time I went to Vancouver, I learned about the art of carry-on luggage. So awesome. There is a ridiculous amount of shoes and clothing that can fit into a seemingly small space. It’s rather astounding!

I also learned about wine. More specifically, drinking wine instead of sitting at the gate watching the time tick by. What a splendid way to spend that extra half an hour between security and boarding!

And this past weekend I learned about pampering spas. Why have I not thought of this before? My nails have never looked as good as they did on the flight from Vancouver to Calgary. $25 and 20 minutes well spent.

Too bad I’m going swimming tomorrow. Please be nice to my nails, chlorine!

Proud Sister Moment!

I’m quite proud of my brother on a regular basis, but today I feel this pride is strong enough that I will share it with the internet.

My brother entered into Cohos Evamy’s Bridge Competition, competed against 9 other teams,…. AND WON!

Now that my brother and his teammate are $2000 richer, each, they are elated and so am I.

The Stats
Weight of Bridge: 519g (the lightest of them all, a good thing)
Calculated Break Weight: 350 Newtons
Actual Break Weight: 400 Newtons (about 40kg.. and better than expected!)

Her Morning Elegance

All during the holidays I worked at a retail outlet that had a mix of Christmas songs and other terrible songs on repeat. I would be in the midst of cringing when suddenly this lovely tune would come on, and make me smile. Hearing the song always reminded me of this video, which I’m sure I’ve shared with you before. Either way, take another look, because it’s fantastic.

Headband with Flower

I didn’t seem to get a really great photo of the headband, per say, but this is my most recent “finished” project. Taken from this amazing blogger who has all kinds of cute free patterns, this flower was super quick and relatively straight forward. I basically completed it months ago, but somehow didn’t sew the flower together with the headband until Friday. The ‘A’ Train dance last Friday inspired me to finally finish it and get all dressed up.

First Blanket

After 2 months of constant crocheting, I finished my first blanket.

It is awesome, and warm, and I’m not afraid to admit that I’m proud of myself.

(I’ll have to work on the art of ‘displaying’ and photographing such items, though)

Slowly but surely I am making my office a more beautiful place. Yesterday I purchased another mini piece of art (8″ x 8″) to add to my slowly growing collection. It’s from an artist that I really like, Jeremiah Ketner, and I’ve been following his life (@smallandround) and his art for a little while now.

Resolutions

It isn’t usually my style to write out resolutions, but somehow this year they happened very organically. An internal push to write in my journal resulted in a list of things I’m looking forward to in 2010. Somehow that expanded into a list of things I’d like to work on, or think about, or generally be aware of.

Maintaining this blog was not on that list.

Not to say I’m giving up on this blog, because I’m not, but perhaps it was good to realize that it isn’t a huge priority for me. So it’ll chug forward, in it’s infrequent way, whenever I feel inspired.

Nikon has a 140 second video festival on right now. Go vote! Some of the videos are amazing, and the prizes are huge…

.. or rather, rectangles.

Slowly but surely, the rectangles are getting crocheted. Hopefully soon I will be able to put them together into a blanket. My goal of ‘Christmas’ didn’t quite happen, but I’m close! 20 of 24 are done!
