orange
Filed in life, August 13, 2010, 9:28 amGosh! Another photo of a flower?!
I know. I can’t help it. I was sorting through some of my older photos (something I don’t do often enough), and came across this one from my trip to the zoo in early July. Just last year the Calgary Zoo opened a new botanical conservatory and it’s beautiful. Of course, my fellow zoo adventurers became a little tired of me when I took macro photos of every single flower, but to them I say – “Isn’t this amazing?”
settling
Filed in life, August 12, 2010, 12:13 pmSlowly but surely I have been inviting more and more people to come see my space. I’m starting to feel more settled, more proud of the home that I’ve created. One of those lovely people brought me flowers – and you all know how much I love photographing flowers… :)
in the diamond
Filed in travel, August 8, 2010, 8:08 pmI was having such a great time at the Mountain View Music Festival, that I completely forgot to take photos. That is, until the last hour immediately prior to tearing down our tent. So I have to admit, last year’s MVMF Photo is much better. But you’ll notice that the same concrete watershed is in both.
Once again we used a massive (if not entirely sturdy) tent, and slept in baseball diamond #4. Only a fence and skip away from the actual festival. It was a wonderful weekend, and I’ve decided that this festival is one of my favourite parts of summer. Despite all forecasts and a brief but unpleasant wind, the weather miraculously turned out. Somehow a really scary looking cloud split and went around the festival. And after some frantic pegging our tent did not blow away. Thank goodness!

hoop
Filed in life, August 6, 2010, 10:25 amTo be honest, I’ve wanted a hula hoop for quite some time now. I’ve admired them at previous Folk Fests, admired friends using them at SDC’s Cabarets, and have giggled while trying to wiggle my own body in the ideal hula hooping fashion. I decided that this year was the year that I would purchase my own. After mentioning my intention multiple times throughout Folk Fest weekend, I finally made the purchase during the early evening on the Saturday. The pickings were slim, but I think this one is quite beautiful and I’m delighted to call it my own.
A couple of informal lessons and a little bit of practice later, and I can now hoop in both directions for a reasonable amount of time. Minutes, perhaps. Long enough that I can claim that I can hula hoop, but not long enough to do any fancy tricks.
I’m looking forward to taking my hoop with me this weekend to the Mountain View Music Festival in Carstairs. Maybe I’ll get a little extra practice, and learn something new. If anything, I know it’ll put a smile on my face and others.
michelangelo
Filed in life, August 5, 2010, 11:19 amContinuing along the biking trend, I’m happy to show off my new storage device – The Michelangelo!
It happily lifts my bike off the ground, without requiring any holes in the wall to support it. I know what you’re asking – “Jo, why don’t you store you bike in bike storage like a normal person?”. Well my friend, bike storage in my building is in an unsecured area of the parkade, open to the dust and dirt of passing vehicles, and is really just a bunch of bikes haphazardly locked to simple bike racks. I like my bike, a lot, and think it deserves better treatment.
Ta Da!
