recovery
Filed in life, December 3, 2010, 12:59 amI went for a follow up appointment yesterday and my new x-rays showed no sign of fracture. Yippee! This means the half cast is off, the crutches cast aside, and I am once again allowed to put weight on my foot. I still need to be gentle, as it’s still severely sprained and quite bruised and swollen, but it’s nice to know that my foot is healing and that there’s no break. Hopefully I’ll be back to Tri training soon!
This is the next step in my healing: tensor bandage! And the fun times of trying to find shoes that fit my swollen tensored foot (thus far the Keds are winning – surprisingly, ballet flats don’t work).

*sorry about the awkward photo… feet are weird….
ankle
Filed in life, November 24, 2010, 11:56 pmIt is official. My clumsy fall down perfectly dry indoor stairs has resulted in a severely sprained ankle. I went to the clinic today (which, by the way, was a much more pleasant and quick experience than I was anticipating) and they diagnosed a tiny tiny hairline fracture. Not serious enough for a cast, but serious enough that they splinted my foot and gave me crutches. Also, I need to go back next week and get another x-ray done to make sure the fracture hasn’t gotten worse. In case you were wondering, crutches suck and the hallway from the elevator to my condo is reaaaally long.
Overall I’m good. I have instructions for resting, icing, compressing, elevation (RICE) and for Advil. 400mg every 4 hours. I’ve also been told that I should take tomorrow off. Not much pain, but a lot of annoyance as moving around is significantly more difficult. Hopefully it heals quickly!

cloudburst
Filed in life, November 23, 2010, 5:47 pmThis is a video of one of the most difficult pieces I’ve sung in choir so far. Seeing as I’m new to choir there isn’t much competition for that title, but Cloudburst is definitely a challenge. It really came together during this performance, and we were all elated by how beautifully it turned out.
goal
Filed in life, November 13, 2010, 3:59 pmWell friends. It seems I am incapable of exercise unless there is a goal attached and I have quite a bit of family and friend support. For that reason I announce my next official fitness goal:
My goal is to complete an Olympic distance Triathlon next August.
Specifically the Triathlon that happens at Lake Chaparral. The distances for this race are:
- 1500m swim
- 38.5km bike ride
- 9km run
(here’s the link to last year’s info… most of which will probably remain the same)
In order to complete my goal, I will likely need support, some fitness companions, and cheering on the day of, so please let me know if you’re interested in participating! And thank you to those of you who have already taken on supportive / companion / cheering roles – it’s much appreciated! Woohoo! :)
additions
Filed in life, November 6, 2010, 12:41 pmAnother trip to IKEA has resulted in my condo looking more and more like a living room out of a catalogue. And I love it. Couches, chair, shelf, plant pots, TV stand, lamps…. all IKEA. Recent additions are the TV stand, now happily white with hidden storage space for my games and DVDs, and a desk table for my den corner.
I also spent a Saturday watching Mom & Dad install a new closet organizer into my bedroom closet. It’s absolutely great, and required a little creativity on my dad’s part to make it all work. Thank you parents!
My contribution to the closet was building a drawer. Minimal, but I always enjoy putting together furniture, especially IKEA. There’s such a sense of accomplishment attached to it.
