The last week has been filled with crazy movement around England. For those interested: Leighton Buzzard -> Oxford -> Stratford-upon-Avon -> Liverpool -> Ambleside (Lake District). Tomorrow morning I’m headed to Mancester, and on Saturday to York. I seem to have spent every day focusing on a famous person.

Oxford = Harry Potter & Alice in Wonderland
Stratford-upon-Avon = Shakespeare
Liverpool = The Beatles
Lake District = Beatrix Potter and Peter Rabbit

Things I’ve noted:

Eating dinner in a nice restaurant on your own is strange. Normally you look at and chat with the person across from you, and only partake in minor people-watching. When you’re on your own, you people watch ALL THE TIME and the waitress starts to get a bit weirded out and confused.

My camera has become my best friend. Because I have no one to exclaim “WOW!” to, I take a picture instead. I have about 500 photos so far, and am glad I have another 2GB memory card with me.

For the first couple of days I would think out loud, especially when things were stressful. I’ve now been able to internalize my thoughts and seem to have full conversations.

Where are the young people?! So far all of my roommates in the youth hostels have been the age of my grandparents. They were all very lovely ladies and we had some good chats, but what I’d like is someone to go for a pint with. The hostels have also been overrun with school kids on class trips. They are quite noisy.

I’m getting a bit tired of making up my bed each night. They give you a comforter and pillow, but you have to put the sheets on them. I don’t even straighten my bed everyday at home.

The included breakfasts have been amazing! Eggs, bacon, sausage, toast, cereal, baked beans, fruit, yogurt … mmm!

I’m looking forward to being able to settle down at Herrang for a couple weeks. Long enough to do laundry, spread out, and stop worrying about zipping up my pack.

No photos today. This computer seems to be only a terminal, and there’s no USB plug-in to be found.
